Essay 1
List one of your most significant professional or organizational accomplishments.
Describe your precise role in this event and how it has helped to shape your management skills. Please limit your response to two, double-spaced, typed pages.

This is a very specific and matter of fact type question giving specific points on which you have to develop your essay. Just describe the accomplishment, giving situation briefly in a clear language. Also explain in easily comprehensible terms, what really was significant about achievement. You can do this by comparing the results with previous year/ other companies/ other colleagues in the same position. Also explain how you grew to be a better manager in the process. The important point to be taken care of is to relate the answer with the personal statement essays in second essay, especially the one about the core values.

Essay 2
Please complete/address two of the following statements. Full-time candidates (Two-Year and One-Year Programs) must complete/address choice F as one of the two options. Please limit each response to one, double-spaced, typed page.

All the personal statement questions are very open ended questions with a wide choice to choose from your life experiences, giving you full liberty to put your best foot forward. Just decide which one of these can be presented in strongest way.

  1. I have always wanted to....

This question has a big scope. What was your childhood dream and why, or, what social problem always perturbed you and you wanted to solve it. There can't be a "right" answer for this, so please honestly describe your intentions, and whatever have you done in this direction. Even if you have not done anything in direction of your aspiration, still a creative write up can make Adcom like you as a person. Be honest and true, this essay has can add a lot of variety to your story.

  2. My most memorable cross-cultural experience....

Describe the experience, clearly explaining what is memorable- the initial shock or problems of adjustment, or the enjoyment and learning after initiation. If you have ever traveled abroad or moved within the country to a completely different culture, its worth mentioning here. It is also recommended that you bring in your learning and how you continue to cherish those subtle moments till now. Try to make the narration as interesting as possible.

  3. My family background is unique because....

Do you really think your family background is unique? What makes you think so? Have you noticed it since your childhood? Find the underlying values in your unique circumstances, and focus on those. Remember the large and varied applicant pool you are competing with. What may not seem unique to you, may become unique when you compare yourself with a Australian whose life was spent at beaches or an American who stayed in developed and urban world. Digg deeper, you are sure to find some unique traits.

  4. The person who has had the greatest influence on my leadership style is... because...

Can be your next door neighbor, or he can be Mahatma Gandhi. Only thing is you should have reasons, and feelings (you have to express them here), to justify so. You must give reasons what really appealed to you. Have you demonstrated the leadership style in your life, if yes please narrate it to make your answer convincing.

  5. The greatest lesson I have ever learned....

This obviously is asking about your real life lesson. It can be a management skill- like people management, or a value, or a general concept of life. Use your writing skills to make it a grasping essay, expressing your feelings, fears, and surprises at places.

  6. Of Goizueta's core values (courage, integrity, accountability, rigor, diversity, team, community), which value resonates most with you and why?

A compulsory question with a wide variety and truly an important one! Based on the examples you chose in above questions, some elements of your personality may already be reflected. Try to complement those by making a unique selection here and defend you choice adroitly. All are the qualities of a great leader, but for sure you will have a quality which characterizes you. Ask your friends, find the proofs from your life, so that you can write a convincing answer, and face the interview with confidence.

Essay 3
What do you expect to accomplish in the Goizueta Business School MBA program?
How will your participation in the MBA program fit in with your experiences and responsibilities as well as your short and long-term career goals? Please limit your response to two, double-spaced, typed pages.

Go in chronological order, giving your experiences so far, (not the exact details of the specific work done by you in specific companies but your progression), and your vision for the future. How and what sort of knowledge do you need to move to newer horizons. How Emory's new curriculum of mixing theory with real life situations (or its core values, or whatever appeals to you) will help you in achieving your long term goal. Relate your future vision with your core value in part 'F' of second essay. It is also suggested that instead of saying that you want to be CEO of a company, say that you want to lead a company and clearly state where you would take that company.
