Essay 1.

Professional Aspirations (750 word maximum, double-spaced, 12-point font)

Think about the decisions you have made in your life. Answer the following:

• What choices have you made that led you to your current position?
• Why pursue an MBA at this point in your life?
• What is your career goal upon graduation from NYU Stern? What is your long-term career goal?

Essay 2.

Your Stern Experience (500 word maximum, double-spaced, 12-point font)

We take great care to shape the Stern community with individuals who possess both intellectual and interpersonal strengths. We seek individuals who are highly intelligent, collaborative and committed to flourishing as Stern leaders. Please answer the following questions:

• What is your personal experience with the Stern community? Tell us what actions you have taken to learn about us.
• Describe what most excites you about Stern from both an academic and extracurricular perspective.
• How do you anticipate making your mark on the Stern community? Be specific about the roles you will take on and the impact you hope to achieve.

Personal Expression

Please describe yourself to your MBA classmates. You may use almost any method to convey your message (e.g. words, illustrations). Feel free to be creative.

If you will submit Essay 3 via mail or by providing an online link, please provide a brief description of your submission and its relevance to your MBA application.

Essay 4.

Additional Information (optional)

Please provide any additional information that you would like to bring to the attention of the Admissions Committee. This may include current or past gaps in employment, further explanation of your undergraduate record or self-reported academic transcript(s), plans to retake the GMAT, GRE and/or TOEFL or any other relevant information.

If you are unable to submit a recommendation from your current supervisor, you must explain your reason in Essay 4.

If you are a re-applicant from last year, please explain how your candidacy has improved since your last application.




Essay Question For 2010

Before writing the answer to anyone question take a comprehensive view of all the three questions. They want to see a complete you. So, three different aspects of your personality are asked clearly. I suggest that you first of all think over the answer to third question i.e. how you will describe yourself. After the introspection, as to what specific qualities characterize you, who actually you are, you proceed to answer the first and second questions in a way that all pieces fit together to make complete you.

 

Essay 1
Professional Aspirations Think about the decisions you have made in your life. Describe the following( Please limit your response to two, double-spaced, typed pages):

A. What choices have you made that led you to your current position?

B. Why pursue an MBA at this point in your life?

C. What is your career goal upon graduation from the NYU Stern? What is your long-term career goal?

Ideally, the answer to successive questions of these three or rather four questions must be natural and logical progression from previous ones. The clue is very clear, you think over the choices you have made so far, link them with the person that you want to describe to your batch mates (if you have done the thinking part honestly, link will already be there) and proceed to answer. Stern is very specific about the clarity in one's choices, so avoid ascribing any thing to chance. Please be clear that choices/ decisions do not mean the facts that are already given in your application. So please do not mention that you chose to join one particular Bank over another, did so and so work, stayed there for n years, and then shifted to another top ranking MNC as senior analyst. Rather explain the reasons behind these facts. Try to explain why you chose one bank over another, what experience you were eyeing at etc. For question B please take cue from answer A. Give your reason that you have gained experience that was needed for achieving your long term goal and now you want to equip your self with further knowledge for achieving your future goals. Even if it is due to financial reason, please mention it. But it must be convincing and in line with your previous and following answers. Question C has two parts. Your goal after Stern is your short term goal, and next part is your long term goal. Again it is suggested that for both these answers do not give specific positions that you want to hold. Try to give the broad experience that you want to gain from your short term goal which will lead to your long term goal. And for the long term goal ideally, instead of mentioning where you want your organization to lead you to (CEO of MNC), you can suggest where you will lead your organization to, what the change that you will bring is, and how exactly you will create a multi-dimensional impact.

 

Essay 2
Fit with Stern The NYU Stern collaborative community is one of our strongest assets. We seek individuals who are passionate about our community and committed to growing as leaders at Stern. Please answer the following questions(Please limit your response to two, double-spaced, typed pages):

A. What is your personal experience with the Stern community? What actions have you taken to learn more about us?

B. What is the most difficult piece of constructive feedback you have received, and what did you do as a result of it? How will this experience make you a better member of the Stern community?

What is your personal experience with the Stern community? What actions have you taken to learn more about us? What is the most difficult piece of constructive feedback you have received, and what did you do as a result of it? How will this experience make you a better member of the Stern community? Try to recollect the feedback that helped you learn a lesson for life. Remember your reactions, how you felt bad or embarrassed or shocked initially, how did you overcome that, and realized the lesson hidden in that feed back. The lesson may be related or reflected in your answer to last question.

To describe yourself does not mean to advertise yourself, so it is suggested to not use a flashy language rather be simple, honest, and comfortable in your own skin. The basic idea is the same that they want to see the real you. As for the content, try to see yourself in a neutral way, ask your friends and colleagues to tell you what is very typical of you. Also just recollect the group in the class to which you belonged to- good students or the cool ones? What nickname was given to you? The combination of qualities that reflects you and only you will surface. Present this image to your batchmates in honest, confident and proud (not bragging) manner.
