General Ed that began less than six months ago is using Internet-based tools to help students realise their B-School dreams
Getting into a good B-School is one of the biggest aspiration of many youngsterstoday. It is to help realise the same after going to some of the finest ones across the globe that prompted four friends to start General Education, an online venture to guide B-School aspirants. General Education is a team of MBA graduates from top global B-Schools like Harvard, INSEAD, ISB and HEC, Paris. The firm formally initiated its operation in August 2007 with the motive to generate awareness and provide guidance to international B-School applicants with their applications and associated processes. "Getting into a B-School is a long process. It doesn"t just mean writing your GMAT or attending the interview. One of the most intrinsic part is the essay on why you're applying to the particular school. We are here to help students with this, as we've been through the process ourselves," said Anoop Kumar, partner, GE. There are times when the schools test students for more than just the obvious. "Once, ISB asked students to write on what they'd choose, knighthood or a million dollars. This requires out-of-the-box thinking,"ÂÂ commented Anoop. The four partners of GE are based out of Paris, Boston and Bangalore. "We mainly function on an Internet-based model, and have tools like video conferencing and voice chat in place to train candidates for different stages,"said Anoop. The site that began this August has already had over 90 people seek help. "The students have all come from recommendations mainly word of mouth. We have had students from outside India seek help, but they have been Indians. We plan to expand and capture the US and other foreign markets,"ÂÂ said Anoop. GE is currently functioning as a part time activity. "We are waiting till we have a sustainable amount of candidates to say that we can bank only on this,ÂÂ" said Anoop.
